Eimer Hegarty

I am currently studying at Magee University and work part time in Kellys Eurospar in Maghera.  When not at university, at the weekends I enjoy socialising with my friends and travelling abroad exploring other cultures.

I first became aware of the RYE programme back in September 2014 through Maghera X Community Links. I thought this was something I would like to explore as self-employment could be a possibility for me further down the line so I registered for the workshops.  I have to admit like anything I was a bit apprehensive on the first night but the welcome I received soon diminished my fears and the atmosphere created was relaxed and informative.

The workshops were full of interesting facts, fun and thought provoking. The night flew you were no sooner there till you were leaving to go home. I met other young people who were like minded and curious about self-employment.

At the end of the third session we were asked if we’d like to join the Youth Steering Group, the meetings would be held bi-monthly, and our opinions and suggestions would be fed back to strategic meetings.  Three participants from that meeting decided to get involved and we haven’t regretted it at all.

As RYE Ambassadors we have regular meetings, get updates on the programme and discuss different ways of promoting the programme and ideas for Study Visits and Master Classes.  I have thoroughly enjoyed the meetings and part of our task was to promote and assist in the organisation of a Study Visit which took place in the Jungle, Moneymore.  I really enjoyed the task and it was an opportunity I would have not experienced outside of RYE.

The information and advice I have gained has been extremely helpful and I hope in the not so distant future to put this to good use.  If you want to know more about how to set up your own business I would highly recommend registering with the RYE programme.
