'Get on Board' (11/02/10)

“Get On Board” is a short course which has been designed specifically for people interested in serving on the Boards of public bodies in Northern Ireland.
This accredited programme has been running successfully since March 2006, with over 208 people now skilled and accredited.
The course will provide participants with a clear understanding of what it takes to be successful both during the appointments process and while serving on a Board. Course content will include the role and responsibilities of public bodies, the appointment process, how to run and manage effective Board meetings, understanding public accounts and how to make decisions at board level.
Course participants will be expected to commit a minimum of 30 hours to the programme, which is accredited through the Northern Ireland Open College Network at Level 2.
Eileen Mullan, Project Leader for Governance at the Belfast Met says “this is an exciting and innovative initiative which is equipping more and more people to go forward for public life. We have seen 38 past participants being appointed to various boards throughout Northern Ireland. The course has the full support of the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland.
