Official Opening of Killegar Parish hall following extensive renovations

14 March 2012

On Saturday 3rd March Bishop Ken Clarke unveiled the new plaque and officially opened the parish hall in Killegar.

Killegar Parish Vestry secured a grant of approximately €59,628 to undertake a major renovation of their parish hall located in the village of Killegar, Co Cavan. They received financial assistance through the Maximising Community Space Crossing Borders programme, which is managed by the Rural Development Council (RDC) and funded by the International Fund for Ireland (the Fund).

Speaking at the launch Joy Hadden, Rural Development Council said, “The Maximising Community Space Crossing Borders programme is designed to increase the capacity of groups managing community halls, encourage wider usage of existing facilities and foster good relations. RDC would like to congratulate the group on the successful completion of the project and wish them every success in all future activities”.

Group Member Laura Dunlop said “I am delighted that funds made available through the International Fund for Ireland and their managing agent the Rural Development Council, has allowed the group to bring the hall up to modern standards and offer a range of programmes and facilities to the wider community”.

Laura Dunlop also commented on the support provided by the Rural Development Council which proved invaluable to the group both in terms of guidance throughout the building and tendering elements of the project and in the group’s development through training and mentoring support. She said “the training was invaluable to the group and it has helped us to shape and develop the various programmes”.
