Coastal Communities Fund Launched

05 March 2012

The Coastal Communities Fund, which BIG Fund is delivering on behalf of HM Treasury, is launching today (Monday 5th March).

This fund uses revenues from the Crown’s marine estates to fund projects in coastal communities in order to promote economic development and create jobs. Government has committed £23.7 million to this programme in the current year, to fund projects across the UK. Of that £450,000 will be available to fund projects in Northern Ireland.

Applications are accepted from voluntary groups, public and private sector organisations. Applications are encouraged also from strong, cross-sectoral partnerships. Some examples of activities that might be supported by this Coastal Communities Fund include supporting skills and training initiatives to improve job prospects of local residents and encourage additional new businesses; maintaining and developing specialised tourist infrastructure, including support for new green tourism opportunities; supporting small-scale and sustainable transport improvements; and other activities which promote sustainable economic growth and jobs.

The deadline for applications for projects in Northern Ireland is of 27th April 2012.

Application materials, help notes and questions and answers are on their WEBSITE
