Delegates from Cacadu District Municipality meet RDC and RCN

Teresa Canavan, RDC Deputy Chief Executive, along with Michael Hughes (Rural Community Network) recently met with representatives of the Cacadu District Muncipality in Eastern Cape Province, South Africa, during their study tour of Northern Ireland.

Cacadu District is one of 6 District (regional) Municipalities in the Eastern Cape Province. It has a population of an estimated 440,000 in habitants in an extensive area surrounding Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality.

The purpose of this visit was to strengthen capacity for the management and coordination of local economic development. The delegation was made up of elected officials from the District (regional) and Local Municipalities as well as several LED managers and officials from the Eastern Cape Provincial Government.

The study tour took place under the auspices of the EU financed "Thina Sinako - Support to LED Programme" in the Eastern Cape. One of the main aims in that programme is to develop a policy and institutional framework for local and regional development.
