Applications sought for Impact 2012 awards

Junior Ministers Jonathan Bell and Martina Anderson, along with Environment Minister Alex Attwood, have urged young people to get ready and get set over the next three months, in preparation for the Impact 2012 Awards.

Impact 2012 awards will be given to people up to the age of 25 who make a positive impact on sustainability and the environment. Project applications can be made under a range of categories, including environment, innovation, rural sustainability, leadership, awareness raising, community safety and others.

Announcing Impact 2012, Junior Minister Bell said: “The Northern Ireland Executive has committed to taking real steps towards Sustainable Development. These Awards will celebrate action being taken on the ground and they will also provide an excellent platform to share these award winning and inspirational ideas with hundreds of others.”

Junior Minister Anderson continued: “The application for the awards is open so now is the time for young people to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in over the next few months into their own local projects. We hope to see plenty of interesting applications rolling in.”

Alex Attwood said: “The Impact 2012 Awards are designed to recognise those young people who are making a positive impact in life, in terms of the environment and sustainability. We are urging young people to prepare projects that will benefit the environment, society and the economy.”

The deadline for submissions is 23 December 2011 and the Awards will be announced at an event in Belfast in March 2012.
