Consultation on Learner and Restricted Driving Schemes

DOE NI is conducting a consultation on the Proposed Changes to the Learner and Restricted Driver Schemes and on Graduated Driver Licensing and are especially keen to hear the views from rural groups across Northern Ireland.

The ideas being considered include:
Raising the minimum licensing age
Making learner drivers take a minimum number of driving lessons and /or hours/miles of supervised practice
Setting a minimum learning period
Encouraging /requiring skid training for learner or restricted drivers
Amending or removing the 45 mph speed limit for learner andrestricted drivers
Allowing learners to drive on motorways
