Youth For Peace Participants enjoy a St Patricks Day to remember!

07 April 2011

Youth for Peace – Moving Forward Together participants recently participated in both the Clones and the Newtownbutler St Patricks Day parades. The Youth for Peace - Moving Forward Together Project is a partnership between Youth Work Ireland-Monaghan, Dee St Community Centre and Clones Erne East Partnership.

The St. Patrick’s Day events were organised as part of a number of intercommunity and intergenerational events that the project will host in the up and coming months. This hugely successful event saw young and old celebrate the vibrant St Patricks Day celebrations in style by taking part and viewing the parades, with 50 Senior citizens from the Dee Street, East Belfast area visiting both parades. While it was also their first visit to these areas of Monaghan and Fermanagh, it was their first experience of the festivities of St Patricks Day. Young people from the Youth For Peace Project both designed and created the snake, display boards and costumes, under the guidance of local artist, Elaine Agnew. This is one of many such interactions that will see young and old from both communities come together to build positive relations, while acknowledging the past and moving toward a future of resolution.
