More Farm Safety Workshops Announced

23 February 2017

Further dates for farm safety workshops have been announced by the Rural Development Council.

These free workshops are targeted at farmers, farm family members and farm workers and offer practical awareness covering the everyday hazards faced by the farming industry.

Several workshops have already taking place and a further 8 are scheduled for March, as part of the delivery of the Northern Ireland Rural Development Programme (RDP) 2014-2020 - Farm Family Key Skills.

The majority of workshops are hosted on farm, but the latest batch of workshops also includes a few off farm venues and it is hoped that rural communities will avail of the opportunity to attend one of the sessions planned during March. As Teresa Canavan, Rural Development Council explained, “Farmers and farm family members are key constituents of rural communities. Against this backdrop some community facilities have expressed an interest in hosting farm safety workshops, and we are delighted to welcome them onboard. We encourage farmers, farm family members and farm employees to attend their local workshop”.

Workshops offer a mix of real life stories, up to date information and a practical understanding of on farm risks, how to identify them and how to manage them. Workshops also introduce farmers to the new construction requirements and raise awareness of the ‘Making it Safer’ tool, a key requirement for the new Farm Business Improvement Scheme (FBIS).

Wednesday 1st March 2017 Lisburn 7pm
